'A subtle, biting satire on the state of the nation'

Meet Dave, a man in a pub who wants to tell you the truth, no matter what the fallout. Performed in Milne's Bar on Hanover Street, DC Moore's darkly comic story puts you up close with a young man eager to share his story over a pint.
Northampton-born DC Moore is one of the hottest new writers around. His first play Alaska earned him the inaugural Tom Erhardt Award for promising new playwrights in 2007 and his next full length play The Empire, premiered at the Royal Court in March to critical acclaim. DC Moore's latest play Town is being staged in Northampton as part of Royal & Derngate's Hometown season in June and July.
‘Stepping into a cosy corner of Milnes Bar, Dave shuffles in, sits down and sizes us up. This is like sitting next to a stranger who insists on telling you his life story and won’t let you get a word in edgeways; Dave is addicted to telling the truth and delivers a curious monologue on the trouble it causes. Highlighting the sheer volume of lies we tell ourselves and others so frequently, Trystan Gravelle performs with sincerity, precision, good timing and incisively dark humour. Minimalistic yet compelling, this play doesn’t need any gimmicks other than the site-specific pub setting; the script is good enough on its own to suck you in for the full forty five minutes. Grab a pint and enjoy.’
Sitting in the corner of the pub and clutching a bottle of beer, Dave looks up at the audience assembled around him and begins to explain how he’s reached a mental topping point – he’s bored by his civil service job, frustrated at the ineptitude of his boss, tired, angry, impotent.
‘If the 100% convincing Trystan Gravelle, who plays Dave, were Irish rather than Welsh, you might think that this short monologue had been penned by Conor McPherson.’
Whatsonstage.com have given an excellent 4-star review to Honest, saying “D.C. Moore’s play is absorbing, dark and richly comic. As Dave, Trystan Gravelle gives a fine, truthful and funny performance.”
We’re delighted to confirm that the brilliant actor Trystan Gravelle will play Dave in DC Moore’s play Honest. He was most recently seen at Sheffield Crucible in Daniel Evans’ acclaimed production of An Enemy Of The People, and also has many RSC and Globe credits to his name.
